# citadel.garden

citadel.garden is a shareholder-owned network of family homes across borders. It is designed for internationally mobile families who want both freedom of movement and dependable places to return to.

## The model

Families hold shares in the company behind the network. The network owns or controls the property rights for its locations. A share is not presented as a deed to one particular house.

Shareholder families can reserve any suitable home that is actually available, subject to network-wide booking rules. A family covers the exact variable costs caused by its stay. Detailed rights and obligations are governed by the relevant shareholder documents.

The company behind the network is a Swiss stock corporation. Its share register is not public. Shares are transferable and inheritable. Contributions stay in the company's shared reserve, which is held in Bitcoin; apart from its subsidiaries, above all those that own the locations, the company holds nothing else on its balance sheet. Locations are financed through a Bitcoin-backed credit line in euros. Contributions in euros are equally welcome.

This is not a timeshare. It is also not marketed as a financial product or a promise of returns.

## Why families pool

A good house by the sea costs around EUR 750,000 before taxes, fees, furniture and upkeep, and usually stands empty for most of the year. Buying it ties savings to one place, puts the owner's name in a foreign land register and, once the family lives there, makes that country its tax home. A share in the network keeps the capital in a shared reserve and opens every location to the family. A shared reserve can also add collateral in a downturn when a single family cannot.

Families spend a season at a time in several locations. The same families use the same locations together, and an education programme moves with them. One of the secured locations is an established independent school offering the International Baccalaureate.

New locations go ahead once one core shareholder, or three shareholders together, commit with exactly that place in mind. Core shareholders may contribute land, real estate or shares where suitable.

## Geographic structure

The public strategy uses five concentric geographic circles:

1. European Union
2. EU special zone
3. Europe beyond the EU
4. The West beyond Europe
5. The East beyond Europe

Individual location names remain private. One location is fully built. Further locations are already secured and remain discreet.

## Talks

Two talks set out the ideas behind the network. Each page has the video, chapters and a full transcript.

- Don't bank on one location, BTC Prague 2026: uncertainty, the Bitcoin citadel meme, why most intentional communities fail, and why selling Bitcoin for a single plot of land trades the most liquid asset for the least liquid one. https://citadel.garden/dont-bank-on-one-location
- Why most intentional communities fail, Liberty in Our Lifetime 2022: four waves of intentional communities, what Nozick missed about the kibbutz, and why barriers to entry, the division of labour and parallel structures decide which communities last. https://citadel.garden/why-intentional-communities-fail
